Updated Resume

I’ve updated my resume and, because of the personal information it contains, placed it behind a bit of “security”. It isn’t foolproof, just fool-resistant.

If anyone notices any typos (in the security or in the resume), let me know.

Still Alive

Really. I haven’t posted in a while, but I’m hoping to change that over the next day or so. (What better way to procrastinate?)

Crap. I just lost the game.

And now you just lost the game too.

At this point, you’re probably asking yourself “Where did that idiot hear of such a crazy game?”

Short answer: There was a guy at the XKCD meetup with a sign letting us all know that we lost.  (And I just remembered, so I lost again.)

Disconnecting Users

I couldn’t remember how to disconnect a user from an ssh session, so I looked it up. Apparently there are a couple ways:
The cleanest is:

# skill -KILL -u <username>

You can also:

# who -u
# kill <processid>

“First Post”

“First Post” is a common thing to claim in the web world these days (examples: Red vs. Blue discussion threads, during woot-offs, etc.). Why? The first post is the beginning. It gets read the most. So why waste it just stating that it’s the first post? Just something to think about.

For my first post on my blog, I thought I’d outline why, exactly, I made it in the first place (for myself and for anyone who happens to stumble across it). It’s a pretty straight forward reason; blogs are easy ways to organize thoughts without much effort. With features such as tagging and categorization, it’s like maintaining a sortable memo pad with a built in search feature. What better way to make non-private notes to be referenced at a later date?

I’m Zach (and in case you didn’t figure it out by now, this is my blog).

I currently attend Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, where I major in Computer Science and Physics and am active in the Clarkson Open Source Institute and the Internet Teaching Lab. I’m an active member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow, serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 77 and as Secretary for Section NE-3B and Lodge 219. For work (and for fun), I do a good bit of web development. I’ve been working with HTML/CSS for 3+ years, PHP for 2+ years, and have a working familiarity with JavaScript (and Ajax). At some point I’ll be putting together a portfolio of the work I’ve done, but if you’re interested in getting more information, please feel free to e-mail me and I’d be happy to send you a copy of my resume and some links.

This blog was created with the goal of being a useful place to organize my thoughts for my use (although that focus may shift over time), but if some one else happens to get something out of it, all the better.
